Representatives of the Czech Embassy in BiH praised the implementation of the SEI Project

Following the Coordination Meeting of the SEI project team, a meeting of the Advisory Board was held in Brčko on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in BiH. The meeting concluded that the project is being successfully implemented and that the activities carried out have produced visible results.

“We are very satisfied with what we have achieved together with our project partners in the Brčko District of BiH, supporting individuals from marginalized groups who are genuinely in need of assistance. Representatives from the Brčko District had a clear vision of the type of support they needed,” said Adam Lorenc, Head of the Development Cooperation Department of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in BiH, adding that it is important for them that the project responds to the needs of the local population, which has been fully achieved, thanks to all project partners.

Special emphasis was placed on activities and results in the area of employment for marginalized target groups, including youth, women, persons with disabilities, and members of the Roma minority.

“The key results of the Socio-Economic Inclusion project in the Brčko District of BiH include a wide range of activities: from providing support to marginalized groups and persons with disabilities through the removal of architectural barriers, to employing six interns and awarding 11 grants for start-ups – for launching or improving businesses, with the obligation to create new jobs. Another important contribution to the project is the renovation of part of the SEI Center building, where a modern conference hall with 60 seats will be located,” said Project Manager Branislav Tanasijević, noting that every effort will be made to enable the project partner, the Youth Center ‘Vermont,’ to launch the first social enterprise in the District – a printing house that will primarily employ members of the Roma minority.

The work on establishing the first social enterprise in the Brčko District is particularly significant, and the Government of the Brčko District is providing full support through this project.

“A Law on Social Entrepreneurship has been adopted in the Brčko District of BiH, creating conditions for the establishment of one or more social enterprises,” emphasized Amra Abadžić, member of the SEI Project Advisory Board and Head of the Subdepartment for Economy of the Brčko District Government, adding that budget funds in the amount of 100,000 BAM have been allocated for this purpose.

One of the conclusions of the meeting was that, in order to strengthen the overall SEI project as well as interstate economic cooperation, the Government of the Czech Republic has expressed its readiness to become an official partner of the International Economic Fair in the Brčko District as early as next year.

The project “Socio-Economic Inclusion in the Brčko District of BiH” is funded by the Czech Development Agency and implemented by CARE International Balkans and the Brčko District Development and Guarantee Fund.
