Implementation of the “Accessibility and Mobility” Project in Full Swing: Sidewalk Adaptation Begins to Improve Movement for Persons with Disabilities
Representatives of the citizens’ association “Vjera & nada” Brčko, the public enterprise “Putevi Brčko”, the international organization CARE International, and the Subunit for Donor Projects of the Development and Guarantee Fund of Brčko District BiH visited today the first locations where works are being carried out within the SEI project “Accessibility and Mobility”. The goal of the project is to remove architectural barriers in the city center, especially along areas with the highest pedestrian traffic.
The president of the association “Vjera & nada”, Nataša Damjanović, emphasized that these efforts create conditions for safer and easier movement for people with mobility impairments. The focus is on lowering curbs, adapting public spaces, and removing obstacles that hinder daily movement. The project includes 26 locations, from Bulevar mira toward the City Hall, the Health Center, and the Hospital, where necessary adaptations will be made to make public spaces more accessible and functional.
The total value of the project is around 60,000 BAM, of which the SEI project contributes approximately 36,000 BAM. Work on three locations began at the start of the month, and all remaining locations are expected to be completed within 100 working days.
The project “Socio-Economic Inclusion in Brčko District BiH” is funded by the Czech Development Agency and implemented by CARE International Balkans and the Development and Guarantee Fund of Brčko District BiH.
