Continuing Activities Through the “Unlock Your Strength” Project

As part of the project “Unlock Your Strength – Opportunities for Women, Youth, and People with Diabetes”, and as one of the activities within the SEI Project, our partner organization, the Brčko Diabetes Association, organized a free blood sugar and blood pressure screening at Youth Square in Brčko.

During the event, citizens were also introduced to modern glucometers and blood pressure monitors. The aim of this activity is to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection of chronic diseases, as well as to improve access to healthcare services for all citizens, regardless of their social and economic status.

“Our activities consistently attract a large number of citizens, which shows that awareness of the importance of preventive check-ups is steadily growing,” said Đorđe Vuković, President of the Association. According to him, the association organizes similar activities almost every month, gathering between 200 and 400 citizens of different age groups.

It is estimated that around 12,000 people in the Brčko District are living with diabetes, and a significant number of them are unaware of their condition. “We are also seeing a growing number of school-aged children with elevated blood sugar and blood pressure levels, but unfortunately, little attention is being paid to this,” Vuković warned.

The association also announced that next month, it will organize educational workshops in secondary schools across the District to better inform young people about the importance of preventive health check-ups and maintaining overall well-being.

The SEI Project is funded by the Government of the Czech Republic and the Czech Development Agency, with the support of the Government of Brčko District BiH, while CARE International Balkans and the Development Guarantee Fund of Brčko District BiH are responsible for its implementation.
