Construction works begin to remove architectural barriers in Brčko District BiH

The Citizens’ Association “Vjera & Nada” from Brčko District BiH, in cooperation with the Public Enterprise “Putevi Brčko”, has started implementing works to remove architectural barriers and lower sidewalks in the city center, with the aim of improving accessibility and mobility for persons with disabilities, the elderly, and parents with children.

The works began on Saturday, November 1, 2025, as part of the continuation of the project “Accessibility and Mobility”, which started in 2024 and is being implemented within the broader project “Socio-Economic Inclusion”, funded by the Government of the Czech Republic and implemented by CARE International Balkans and the Brčko District Development and Guarantee.

For the purpose of implementing the works, an agreement was signed between CARE International and the Public Enterprise “Putevi Brčko”, ensuring professional and technical execution of project activities on the ground.

The project is led by the Citizens’ Association “Vjera & Nada”, which is monitoring the implementation of works and continues to actively contribute to improving accessibility and creating an inclusive environment for all citizens of Brčko District BiH.

“Through this project, we are taking another concrete step toward a barrier-free city. Our vision is a Brčko District where all citizens, regardless of physical ability, can equally participate in everyday community life. We are grateful to CARE International, the Czech Development Agency, the Government of the Czech Republic, and the Public Enterprise “Putevi Brčko” for their support and understanding of the importance of accessibility for all” said Nataša Damjanović, President of the Citizens’ Association “Vjera & Nada”.
